Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum |
|
| |
Closed for renovation with plans for reopening early 2010. |
|
| |
It was nearly 235 years ago when a group of colonists in Boston took dramatic steps to oppose British rule over America - a protest so bold that it led to America’s Revolutionary War. The Boston Tea Party took place on the 16th of December 1773, when a group of oppositionists marched down to Griffin’s Wharf and dumped more than 342 crates of tea into the harbor. The event was in direct response to Britain’s unfair taxation laws including the Tea Act of 1773. When three ships from London sailed into the Boston Harbor carrying tea from the East India Company, attempting to undersell the local merchants without paying duties or tariffs, colonists were infuriated and acted out to demonstrate that they would no longer be dominated by Britain.
At the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, you can witness the extraordinary passion and fervor these men felt and see for yourself what The Boston Tea Party meant to all Americans—then and now. It was a time of great patriotism and uncertainty. It was also a time when those who spoke out did so for all and risked everything they had for freedom—even their very lives.
The Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum offers visitors a first-hand look at the events that took place during those times, the night of December 16th and the days that followed, leading up to the American Revolution. You’ll be treated to a stroll through three ships that replicate the Dartmouth, the Eleanor and the Beaver and to a variety of exhibits and displays that encompass this historic period. Witness enthralling videos, living history programs and see memorabilia up close.
Here you’ll have an opportunity to gain an in-depth knowledge of the people and the events that took place over two centuries ago. You’ll also be able to understand the emotions our forefathers felt as they embarked on the battle for our freedom. The Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum is ideal for people of all ages and offers an educational and inspirational experience for everyone.
Note: this attraction is currently closed for renovation with plans for reopening early 2010. |
